Warren Carlos Sapp was born on December 19, 1972, in Plymouth, Florida (Orange County), and grew up in Apopka, attending Apopka High School before going on to the University of Miami — one of the premier programs of the early 1990s. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him 12th overall in the 1995 NFL Draft, and Sapp became the most dominant interior defensive lineman of his era, anchoring a defense that was so dominant in Tampa Bay that it forced offensive line coaches throughout the NFL to rethink how to protect the interior. Listed at 300 pounds but moving with the quickness of a pass-rushing linebacker, Sapp led the NFL in sacks in 1999 with 12.5 and was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection. His greatest season came in 2002, when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — powered by a defense that allowed the fewest points in NFL history at the time — won Super Bowl XXXVII by crushing the Oakland Raiders 48-21. Sapp was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1999 and finished his career with 96.5 sacks. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013. Born and raised in the Apopka area of Orange County, Florida.
