Stephon Eugene Gilmore was born on September 19, 1990, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and attended South Pointe High School — the same school that would later produce Jadeveon Clowney. He played college football at the University of South Carolina, where he was a two-time All-SEC selection, and was drafted 10th overall by the Buffalo Bills in the 2012 NFL Draft. After four strong seasons in Buffalo, Gilmore signed with the New England Patriots in 2017 and became the defining cornerback of his era. In 2019, Gilmore won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award — the first cornerback to win that award since Charles Woodson in 2009 — while anchoring the Patriots' defense and recording six interceptions, 20 pass deflections, and a defensive touchdown. He was the key defensive player on the Patriots' Super Bowl LIII championship team in February 2019, where his key interception in the fourth quarter helped seal the victory. Gilmore was a five-time Pro Bowl selection and one of the most technically refined man-coverage corners in NFL history. Born and raised in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
