"Stan the Man" Musial grew up in Donora, Pennsylvania — a small mill town in the Monongahela Valley — and attended Donora High School, where he was a standout pitcher and outfielder. He signed with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1938 and went on to play his entire 22-year career in St. Louis, winning 3 World Series (1942, 1944, 1946) and 3 NL MVP awards. Musial hit exactly 3,630 career hits — 1,815 at home and 1,815 on the road — a statistical symmetry that seemed almost poetic. He finished with a .331 career batting average, 475 home runs, and 1,951 RBI. Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969 with 93.2% of the vote.
