Sidney Moncrief was born on September 21, 1957, in Little Rock, Arkansas, and attended Hall High School before becoming one of the greatest players in University of Arkansas basketball history under coach Eddie Sutton. He was selected fifth overall in the 1979 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks and spent the prime of his career establishing himself as one of the most complete two-way guards in the NBA. Moncrief was a five-time All-Star, twice made the All-NBA First Team, and won back-to-back NBA Defensive Player of the Year awards in 1983 and 1984 — the first two times the award was ever given. He was so influential on the defensive end that his combination of relentless pressure defense and elite scoring set the standard against which perimeter defenders were measured for a generation. Moncrief finished with a career scoring average of 17.8 points per game over 11 NBA seasons. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019.
