Randy Barnes is one of the greatest shot putters in history, holding the world records for both the indoor and outdoor shot put — records that have stood since 1989 and 1990 respectively. He grew up in St. Albans, West Virginia, and attended St. Albans High School, where he first developed into an elite thrower. Barnes won the shot put gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and was a dominant force in the event throughout the late 1980s and 1990s. His outdoor world record of 23.12 meters (75 feet 10¼ inches), set in 1990, remains one of the longest-standing world records in track and field. Attended St. Albans High School in St. Albans, West Virginia.
