"Charlie Hustle" Pete Rose was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he attended Western Hills High School — the same school that produced several major leaguers including Clyde Vollmer and Don Zimmer. Rose played with relentless, fearless intensity from the moment he arrived in the big leagues in 1963. He won 3 World Series (1975, 1976 with the Reds; 1980 with the Phillies), was a 17× All-Star at five different positions, and finished his career in 1986 as the all-time leader in hits with 4,256 — a record that stands today. His accomplishments rank among the game's greatest careers, but Rose was permanently banned from baseball in 1989 after an investigation found he had bet on games as a player and manager, making him ineligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame.
