Nathaniel "Tiny" Archibald was born on September 2, 1948, in the Alfred E. Smith Houses of the South Bronx, and grew up in poverty in one of America's most economically distressed neighborhoods. He attended DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx and earned a scholarship to the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). At 6 feet and 160 pounds, he was considered too small by most NBA teams and went undrafted in 1970 before signing as a free agent with the Cincinnati Royals. He quickly established himself as one of the quickest and most elusive scorers and playmakers in the game. In the 1972–73 season with the Kansas City-Omaha Kings, Archibald accomplished something no player has managed before or since: he led the entire NBA in both scoring (34.0 points per game) and assists (11.4 per game) in the same season. He was a six-time NBA All-Star and won the 1981 NBA championship with the Boston Celtics as a key contributor to the Bird-era dynasty. Archibald's story — from the housing projects of the South Bronx to NBA champion and Hall of Famer — is among the most inspiring in basketball history. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1991. Born and raised in the South Bronx, New York.
