Mike Flanagan was born in Manchester, New Hampshire, and became one of the most accomplished pitchers in Baltimore Orioles history. A crafty left-hander who won 167 games over 18 seasons, Flanagan won the 1979 American League Cy Young Award after going 23-9 with a 3.08 ERA — the best single-season performance by any pitcher in New Hampshire sports history. He was part of the legendary Orioles staff of the late 1970s and was on the mound for Baltimore's 1979 and 1983 World Series teams, winning the championship in 1983. Known for his competitive intelligence and dry wit, Flanagan later served as a co-general manager of the Orioles. He remains the most celebrated baseball player ever produced by the Granite State.
