Michael Phelps is the most decorated Olympian in history, winning 28 Olympic medals — 23 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze — across five Olympic Games (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016). He qualified for the 2000 Sydney Olympics at age 15 while still a sophomore at Towson High School, becoming the youngest American male swimmer to compete at the Olympics in 68 years. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics he won 8 gold medals in a single Games — the most by any athlete in a single Olympiad in history. Phelps shattered world records across the 100m and 200m butterfly, 200m and 400m individual medley, and multiple relay events. He retired after the 2016 Rio Games. Attended Towson High School in Towson, Maryland, and graduated in 2003.
