"The Toe" Lou Groza was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio, in the Ohio Valley's steel and sports country, and attended Martins Ferry High School before his career was interrupted by World War II service. He spent his entire 21-year career with the Cleveland Browns, serving not just as their kicker but as one of the most dominant offensive tackles of the era. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland (1950, 1954, 1955, 1964), was a 9× Pro Bowl selection, and helped transform the placekicker from an afterthought to a specialized position. When he retired, his 1,608 career points were the most in NFL history. Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1974.
