Larry Chatmon Little was born on November 2, 1945, in Groveland, Florida (Lake County), and attended Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach — one of Florida's most historically significant HBCUs. He went undrafted and signed with the San Diego Chargers as a free agent in 1967 before being traded to the Miami Dolphins in 1969, where he would spend the rest of his career and make history. As the right guard on Miami's offensive line, Little was the bulldozing force in front of Larry Csonka, Jim Kiick, and Mercury Morris — the running backs who powered the 1972 Miami Dolphins to a perfect 17-0 season, the only undefeated championship season in NFL history. Little was so dominant as a run blocker that coaches from across the league cited him as the standard by which offensive guards should be measured. He was a five-time Pro Bowl selection and was a consensus choice as the best offensive guard of the early 1970s era. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993.
