Ken Griffey Sr. was born in Donora, Pennsylvania — the same small mill town that produced Stan Musial — and attended Donora High School. Signed by the Cincinnati Reds, Griffey became a key member of Cincinnati's "Big Red Machine," winning back-to-back World Series championships in 1975 and 1976. A 3× All-Star, he batted .296 over 19 major league seasons. His greatest claim to fame may be that on August 31, 1990, he and his son Ken Griffey Jr. became the first father-son pair to play together on the same major league team when they were both Seattle Mariners — one of the most heartwarming moments in baseball history.
