Juan Dixon was born on October 9, 1978, in Baltimore, Maryland, and attended Lake Clifton High School before going on to write one of the most inspiring stories in Maryland Terrapins basketball history. Raised in Baltimore after losing both parents to AIDS-related illnesses during his childhood, Dixon channeled his adversity into relentless determination. At the University of Maryland, he developed into one of the ACC's premier guards under coach Gary Williams — a tenacious defender and clutch scorer. In 2002, Dixon led the Terrapins to the NCAA national championship, averaging 19.4 points per game in the tournament and being named the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. He was selected 17th overall by the Washington Wizards in the 2002 NBA Draft and played eight NBA seasons. Dixon's journey from loss and hardship in Baltimore to the top of college basketball remains one of the most compelling stories in Maryland sports history.
