John Lee Stallworth was born on July 15, 1952, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and went on to Alabama A&M University — one of Alabama's historic HBCUs — before the Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in the fourth round of the 1974 NFL Draft. What followed was one of the most successful careers in the history of professional football, on one of the most successful teams in the sport's history. Over 14 seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Stallworth was part of four Super Bowl championships (Super Bowl IX, X, XIII, XIV) alongside receivers Lynn Swann, forming a receiving duo that was the envy of the entire NFL throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s. While Swann received more publicity, many coaches and players of the era considered Stallworth the more complete receiver. His defining moments came on the biggest stages: in Super Bowl XIII, he caught a 75-yard touchdown pass from Terry Bradshaw to put Pittsburgh ahead of the Dallas Cowboys; in Super Bowl XIV, he caught a 73-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter that turned a 24-19 Pittsburgh deficit into a lead they never relinquished. He finished his career with 537 receptions for 8,723 yards and 63 touchdowns. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002. Born and raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
