Joe Namath — "Broadway Joe" — grew up in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, where he was a multi-sport star at Beaver Falls High School. After a brilliant career at Alabama under Bear Bryant, he was selected 1st overall in the AFL Draft by the New York Jets in 1965. His greatest moment came before Super Bowl III, when he guaranteed a Jets victory over the heavily favored Baltimore Colts — and delivered, winning 16–7. Namath was the first AFL quarterback to throw for 4,000 yards in a season (1967) and became the face of the AFL–NFL merger era. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985.
