Joe Johnson was born on June 29, 1981, in Little Rock, Arkansas, and attended the University of Arkansas before leaving after his freshman season to enter the 2001 NBA Draft, where he was selected 10th overall by the Boston Celtics. Over a 17-year NBA career, Johnson established himself as one of the most reliable scorers and shot-creators in the league — particularly during his long tenure with the Atlanta Hawks, where he was a six-time NBA All-Star and one of the most consistent isolation scorers of his era. He was at his best as a player who could create his own shot in the half-court, particularly in late-game situations. Johnson earned more than $180 million in career NBA salary, making him one of the highest-paid players of his generation relative to his draft position.
