Jim Parker was born in Macon, Georgia, but moved to Toledo, Ohio, where he attended Scott High School and developed into a dominant lineman. At Ohio State he won the Outland Trophy as the nation's best interior lineman. Drafted 8th overall by the Baltimore Colts in 1957, Parker spent all 11 seasons in Baltimore, where his primary assignment was protecting quarterback Johnny Unitas — a job he performed so well that Unitas once said, "I owe everything to Jim Parker." A 8× Pro Bowl selection, Parker was the first player in NFL history inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame exclusively as an offensive lineman, in 1973.
