Jim Furyk grew up in the Philadelphia suburb of West Chester, Pennsylvania, where he developed his unorthodox but supremely effective looping swing under the tutelage of his father, a club professional. Despite a swing that commentators once described as "an octopus falling out of a tree," Furyk became one of the most consistent ball strikers of his generation, winning the 2003 U.S. Open at Olympia Fields and compiling 17 PGA Tour victories. He is one of only two players in history to shoot a 58 in official PGA Tour competition (2016) and has a storied Ryder Cup career. Inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2014.
