Jerry West is one of the greatest basketball players in history and the silhouette that became the NBA logo. He grew up in East Bank, West Virginia, and starred at East Bank High School, where he was a 3× All-State selection, the 1956 West Virginia Player of the Year, and became the first player in state history to score more than 900 points in a season, averaging 32.2 points per game as a senior. After leading WVU to the 1959 NCAA championship game (losing to California), West was drafted 2nd overall in 1960 by the Los Angeles Lakers. He played 14 NBA seasons entirely with the Lakers, earning 14 All-Star selections, 1 NBA championship (1972), and the 1969 NBA Finals MVP — the only Finals MVP ever awarded to a player on the losing team. He averaged 27.0 points per game for his career and later built dynasties as an executive with the Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies, Golden State Warriors, and LA Clippers.
