Jeff Bagwell was born in Boston, Massachusetts, but grew up in Killingworth, Connecticut, where he attended Xavier High School in Middletown. After three years at the University of Hartford he was drafted by the Boston Red Sox — who infamously traded him to the Houston Astros for reliever Larry Andersen in 1990, one of the most lopsided deals in baseball history. Bagwell spent his entire 15-year career in Houston, winning the 1994 NL MVP Award (.368 BA, 39 HR, 116 RBI in a strike-shortened season), four Gold Gloves, and three Silver Sluggers. He hit 449 career home runs with a .297 batting average and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2017.
