Isiah Thomas was born and raised on the West Side of Chicago, the youngest of nine children in a family shaped by poverty but rich in determination. He attended St. Joseph High School in Westchester, Illinois, under coach Gene Pingatore, then starred at Indiana University under Bob Knight. The Detroit Pistons selected him second overall in the 1981 draft. The 6-foot point guard went on to win back-to-back NBA Championships with the "Bad Boy" Pistons (1989, 1990), was a 12-time All-Star, and was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History. Thomas was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000.
