Herbert Anthony Adderley was born on June 8, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and attended Northeast High School before going on to Michigan State, where he was an All-American halfback. The Green Bay Packers selected him 12th overall in the 1961 NFL Draft and converted him to cornerback — a position change that led to one of the most dominant defensive careers of the era. Under Vince Lombardi, Adderley became the shutdown corner of the Packers' dynasty teams, winning five NFL championships including the first two Super Bowls (I and II). His seven career interceptions in the postseason stood as an NFL record for over three decades. Fast, physical, and able to blanket the best receivers of his era, Adderley was the prototype for the modern cover cornerback. He later won Super Bowl VI with the Dallas Cowboys. A six-time Pro Bowl selection with 48 career interceptions, Adderley was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1980. Attended Northeast High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
