Glen Rice was born in Flint, Michigan, and starred at Flint Northwestern High School before playing at the University of Michigan, where he led the Wolverines to the 1989 NCAA Championship as tournament MVP. The Charlotte Hornets selected him fourth overall in the 1989 NBA Draft. A sweet-shooting small forward with exceptional range, Rice made three NBA All-Star teams and won an NBA Championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2000. His 1997 season with Charlotte (26.8 PPG) ranks among the finest offensive seasons by a Hornet in franchise history. Rice remains one of the most beloved athletes from Flint's rich sports tradition.
