Don Mattingly was born in Evansville, Indiana and spent his entire playing career with the New York Yankees (1982–1995). "Donnie Baseball" won nine consecutive Gold Glove Awards at first base, was a six-time All-Star, and captured the 1985 AL MVP Award. A back injury robbed him of his prime power years, but Mattingly remained one of the most beloved Yankees of his generation and later managed the Los Angeles Dodgers and Miami Marlins.
