Dulymus Jenod "Deuce" McAllister was born on December 27, 1978, in Morton, Mississippi (Scott County), and attended Forest High School in the adjacent Scott County town of Forest before going to the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) on a football scholarship. The New Orleans Saints selected him in the first round of the 2001 NFL Draft, and McAllister quickly became the most important offensive player on the franchise and one of the most beloved figures in New Orleans Saints history. He led the NFL in rushing touchdowns in 2003 with 16, ran for over 1,000 yards in three consecutive seasons (2002, 2003, 2004), and combined power, vision, and breakaway speed into a running back package that Saints fans have never forgotten. His career was repeatedly interrupted by serious knee injuries, but his character and his love for New Orleans — which deepened immeasurably after Hurricane Katrina devastated the city and the Gulf Coast in 2005 — made him a symbol of the resilience that defined the Saints franchise during one of the most difficult periods in the history of American sport.
