Derrick Rose was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago and attended Simeon Career Academy, where he led the program to back-to-back Illinois state championships. After one season at the University of Memphis, the Chicago Bulls selected him first overall in the 2008 NBA Draft. In 2011, at just 22 years old, Rose became the youngest MVP in NBA history — captivating Chicago and the basketball world with his electrifying speed and scoring. A series of devastating knee injuries derailed what many believed would be a transcendent career, but Rose's resilience became its own story. He played for six franchises over 14 seasons.
