Deion Luwynn Sanders was born on August 9, 1967, in Fort Myers, Florida, and attended North Fort Myers High School, where he was a multi-sport star. He went to Florida State University, where he played football, baseball, and ran track simultaneously — a preview of the dual-sport professional career that would make him unique in American sports history. The Atlanta Falcons selected him fifth overall in the 1989 NFL Draft, and he simultaneously pursued a career as an outfielder in Major League Baseball, becoming one of only two athletes (with Bo Jackson) to play in both a Super Bowl and a World Series. As a cornerback his impact on the NFL is difficult to overstate: his combination of elite speed, size, technique, and supreme confidence made him literally unguardable on the perimeter, and offensive coordinators regularly chose not to throw to his side of the field, effectively removing one half of the field from their game plan. Nicknamed "Prime Time" and "Neon Deion" for his showmanship and boldness, he won two Super Bowl championships — one with the San Francisco 49ers (Super Bowl XXIX) and one with the Dallas Cowboys (Super Bowl XXX). He was an eight-time Pro Bowl selection and won three Defensive Player of the Year awards. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011 in his first year of eligibility.
