Cris Carter grew up in Middletown, Ohio, and starred at Middletown High School before going to Ohio State. Despite being cut by the Philadelphia Eagles — Buddy Ryan famously said "all he does is catch touchdowns" — Carter was claimed by the Minnesota Vikings in 1987 and became one of the most prolific receivers in NFL history. He developed into the gold standard for route running and contested-catch technique, recording 130 career touchdown receptions (2nd all-time at his retirement) and 1,101 catches for 13,899 yards. An 8× Pro Bowl selection, he later became a prominent NFL analyst and Hall of Fame mentor to young receivers. Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013.
