Carlton Fisk was born in Bellows Falls, Vermont, and grew up across the Connecticut River in Charlestown, New Hampshire, where he attended high school and became a star multi-sport athlete. He signed with the Boston Red Sox and became one of the greatest catchers in American League history. His walk-off home run in Game 6 of the 1975 World Series — famously waving the ball fair as he jogged toward first base — is one of the most iconic moments in sports television history. Fisk won the 1972 AL Rookie of the Year Award and made 11 All-Star teams. After 11 seasons in Boston he signed with the Chicago White Sox, where he continued to play until age 45, setting the record for career home runs by a catcher (376). He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000.
