Carli Anne Lloyd was born on July 16, 1982, in Delran, New Jersey, and attended Delran High School before going on to Rutgers University, where she developed into one of the most competitive midfielders in the country. She joined the U.S. Women's National Team and became their engine in the central midfield — relentless, technically gifted, and ferocious in big moments. She won Olympic gold medals in 2008 (Beijing) and 2012 (London), scoring the decisive goal against Japan in overtime in the 2012 final. But her defining moment came on July 5, 2015, in the FIFA Women's World Cup Final against Japan in Vancouver. In the first 16 minutes, Lloyd scored a hat trick — the only hat trick in a Women's World Cup final in history — including a stunning strike from midfield, approximately 54 yards from goal, that is one of the most extraordinary goals ever scored at any level of the game. She was named the tournament's Golden Ball (best player) and went on to be named FIFA Women's World Player of the Year in both 2015 and 2016, back-to-back. She also won the 2019 World Cup with the US team. Her career totals: 316 caps, 134 goals, 2 World Cup championships, 2 Olympic gold medals. She retired in September 2021. She was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2024. Born and raised in Delran, New Jersey.
