Calvin Murphy was born in Norwalk, Connecticut, and became one of the most improbable stars in NBA history. At just 5'9" — the shortest player to start regularly in the NBA for most of his career — he averaged 17.9 points per game over 13 seasons with the Houston Rockets and is one of the greatest pure scorers and free-throw shooters in league history (95.8% in 1980–81, an NBA record at the time). A six-time All-Star and state baton-twirling champion in his youth, Murphy overcame every size-related doubt to forge a Hall of Fame career. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993.
