Robert Allen McAdoo was born on September 25, 1951, in Greensboro, North Carolina, and went on to the University of North Carolina before the Buffalo Braves selected him 2nd overall in the 1972 NBA Draft. What followed was one of the most dominant scoring runs in NBA history: McAdoo won three consecutive NBA scoring titles (1974, 1975, 1976), averaging 34.5, 30.6, and 31.1 points per game respectively — numbers that placed him among the most prolific scorers the game has ever seen. In 1975, he was named the NBA Most Valuable Player, one of the few big men of his era to score from everywhere on the floor: the post, the mid-range, and even beyond what would become the three-point line. His career took him through eight NBA franchises, but it was in Los Angeles where he found team success — coming off the bench to help the Lakers win back-to-back NBA championships in 1982 and 1985. He later played in Italy, where he continued to dominate. Inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000. Born and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina.
