Arnold Palmer was born and raised in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, where his father Milfred "Deacon" Palmer was the greenskeeper and head professional at Latrobe Country Club. Growing up on the course as his backyard, Palmer developed his attacking, go-for-broke style of play that would captivate the world. He won 62 PGA Tour events including 4 Masters titles, 2 British Opens, and 1 U.S. Open, and was the first player to win $1 million on the PGA Tour. More than any other figure, Palmer — with his charismatic personality and TV-friendly swagger — transformed golf into a mass-market American sport. "Arnie's Army" of passionate fans was unlike anything the sport had seen. He was a founding member of the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.
