El Dorado, AR (Union County; south Arkansas); home of the Wildcats; located in El Dorado, the county seat of Union County in the oil-rich south Arkansas Ark-La-Tex border region; El Dorado is the birthplace of Lou Brock (National Baseball Hall of Fame 1985; St. Louis Cardinals; outfielder who was one of the most dangerous baserunners in the history of professional baseball; set the single-season stolen base record with 118 in 1974; finished with a career total of 938 stolen bases before Rickey Henderson broke both records; the Cardinals acquired him from the Cubs in one of the most lopsided trades in baseball history and he immediately became the catalyst of their championship teams in 1964 and 1967); a proud athletic tradition in one of south Arkansas's most historically significant cities
