Matthew Gilbert High School

Jacksonville, FL (Duval County); historic African American high school established in 1926 as the first accredited Black high school in Duval County under Florida's era of racial segregation; alma mater of Bob Hayes (Pro Football Hall of Fame 2009; two-time world's fastest human; 1964 Tokyo Olympics 100-meter gold medalist and 4×100 relay gold medalist; Dallas Cowboys wide receiver; nicknamed "Bullet Bob"; his speed was so disruptive to NFL defenses that it is widely credited with forcing defensive coordinators to invent the modern zone coverage schemes still used today); later converted to a middle school; stands as one of the most historically significant Black educational institutions in Florida history
